Central College in Pella recognized students during Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Caelin Barbour, from Forest City, was one of 251 Central students who were celebrated during Commencement 2026. Barbour worked toward History and Political Science majors.

Four boys from the Bison FFA Chapter earned a Silver rating at the State FFA Ag Mechanics Contest held May 19 at the Iowa State University Ag 450 Farm., Brody Cooper, Myles Henn, Reese Welhousen, and Wyatt Wright competed in five different Ag Mechanic areas, where they had to perform a skills activity and complete a test on each area. 

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors at their May 26 meeting approved a three-year contract with Cost Advisory Services, Inc.

CASI is an Iowa-based company that provides annual cost allocation and indirect cost rate services to county governments, cities, and state agencies to help them recover eligible indirect costs from federal programs.

Aisha Jobe of Buffalo Center and Kaylea Mary of Lake Mills are on the Kirkwood Community College Dean’s List for the spring 2026 semester. These students have achieved a 3.3 grade point average or higher after completing 12 or more credit hours at the college.

Forest City High School claimed first place among 17 schools at the Top of Iowa Conference Art Show, which took place May 7 at Waldorf University in Forest City.

Hello from Timely Mission! It was chilly and rainy this week, but we stayed busy inside doing our daily exercise and games.

Some of our regulars played Farkle on Monday afternoon. Tuesday was trivia day and nifty nails. We enjoyed Bible study Wednesday morning with Larry Gruis and banana splits in the afternoon.

A Sunday night storm that swept through Winnebago County left behind significant damage in the Rice Lake area, where officials say a tornado destroyed buildings, downed dozens of trees and damaged homes, though no injuries were reported.

Shooterz Bar & Grill will celebrate two years under the ownership of Leah Determan and Thomas Mason with a ribbon cutting on Monday, June 1, put on by The Forest City Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center. The ribbon cutting will be held at noon on Monday at Shooterz, located at 1126 Highway 69 in Forest City.

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors at their May 19 meeting heard from two landowners who discussed a petition regarding a neighboring property they described as a nuisance property.

Kaylea Mary of Lake Mills graduated from Kirkwood Community College during Commencement held Saturday, May 9 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in downtown Cedar Rapids. Mary received an Associate of Applied Science Degree.
