Heartland Power Cooperative is ready to serve local electric customers for decades to come, after moving into brand new headquarters in Thompson. Staff moved across town to the new location at 11464 Highway 9 in the middle of April, and the new signage went up on the building just this week.

The Forest City Community School District Board of Education at its May 11 meeting was updated about the Forest City CSD high school graduation week events.

Buffalo Center will not offer coach pitch and t-ball programs for youth this summer unless coaches step up to the plate soon to lead the programs. The City has been looking for coaches since February, but so far, no one has expressed interest.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer recognized three area students for outstanding academic achievement at the 24th Annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony on April 26 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

The Forest City Council at their May 4 meeting were updated on electric rate numbers and the need for future rate increases.

Blair Metzger with DGR Engineering provided a summary of the City’s rate numbers.

“So, essentially what we're talking about, what this will boil down to is what needs to be done for Fiscal Year 2027, which starts in July,” he said. “What are we going to do for next fiscal year?”

Lake Mills Wind, LLC will hold an open house Tuesday, May 12 to share information about the proposed Lake Mills Wind project. The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Hanson Nature Center, located at 41600 Highway 69 north of Leland.

What began more than a decade ago as a vision to better serve veterans across Winnebago and Worth counties came full circle on Tuesday, April 21, when Melissa Michaelis, Executive Director of Winn-Worth Betco, was surprised with the very first Home Base Iowa Community Champion Award.

The annual spring community-wide garage sales in the North Iowa communities are coming up the weekend of May 1-2. The Winnebago County Tribune will advertise listings along with a map of sale locations in our May 1 edition.

The Winnebago County Tribune is switching publication days beginning this week, with the newspaper now coming out each Friday instead of Thursday.
The change follows the end of printing press operations at Mid-America Publishing in Hampton, where the Tribune has been printed since 2009. Nelson Media Company purchased the Tribune from Mid-America Publishing last week, and the newspaper will now be printed in Oelwein.

Forest City High School will hold its annual Prom this Saturday evening, April 18, beginning with a Grand March in the high school gym at 7 p.m. The community is invited to attend, and admission is $5 cash only at the door.
“Beneath the Stars” is the theme for Forest City’s Prom, and the dance will follow from 8-10 p.m. on Saturday in the school gym. After Prom will be held at the Wow! Zone in Mankato, Minn., following the dance.

Prom is this Saturday night, April 18 at North Iowa High School, and the community is invited to attend the Grand March taking place at 6 p.m. in the North Iowa Gymnasium. “Under the Sea” is this year’s theme. Admission to the Grand March is $5, while kids in kindergarten or younger get in free.
